Bootstrap & company identity
Two ways to give every agent context it would otherwise have to be told, one conversation at a time.
Who can do what
| Task | User | Agent owner | Admin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Set the organization's default bootstrap instructions | — | — | ✅ |
| Edit the company identity | — | — | ✅ |
| Set an agent's own bootstrap instructions | — as Editor | ✅ | ✅ |
| Edit their own user identity | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Default bootstrap instructions
Organization → General. Guidance every agent in the organization receives at the start of its first task session.
Use it for things that are true regardless of what an agent is for: how to address people, what to do when uncertain, house conventions for output, what must never be done without asking.
Keep it short. It's prepended to every agent's context, so length has a cost on every task, and long standing instructions dilute the specific ones that matter for the task at hand.
Individual agents add their own bootstrap in Agent → Settings → Bootstrap, layered on top of the organization default rather than replacing it. Reset bootstrap returns an agent to the default.
Company identity
Organization → General. Shared context about your organization that agents can reference — what you do, your products, your customers, the vocabulary and acronyms outsiders wouldn't know.
The difference from bootstrap instructions is worth being precise about:
- Bootstrap is instruction — how to behave. It's always in context.
- Company identity is reference — what's true about you. Agents read it when relevant.
So "always use British spelling" is bootstrap; "ACV means annual contract value, and our fiscal year starts in April" is identity.
User identity
Settings → Your Identity is the same idea for an individual: your role, what you work on, how you like things done. Each member maintains their own, per organization, and agents can read and update it as they learn.
This is why a new agent can already address you sensibly. It's also worth checking occasionally — an agent that has recorded something wrong about your role will act on it.
Which to use

| always do | Default bootstrap instructions |
| know about the organization | Company identity |
| know about you | Your identity |
| do for one agent's job | That agent's bootstrap or instructions |
